Yay - we have finally moved down to Alert Level 3 in New Zealand. I hope everyone reading this is happy and well wherever you are in the world .
This month I want to talk about Granny Squares. These are the perfect project to use up small amounts of yarn you may have in your stash, or from that purchase of colour coordinated yarns for your special project.
I made this granny square blanket over 50 years ago. Every winter it goes on our bed, and my husband calls it 'Old Faithful"! It is still beautiful, and very warm.
Granny Squares aren't only for making blankets and throws. They can be transformed into beautiful, fashionable garments and accessories.
I am now able to send orders, and if you had made purchases during the Level 4 lockdown these should be on their way to you very soon. Please allow some delay due to an overloaded courier system at this time, but get in touch if you haven't received anything within the next two weeks. Thank you so much for all the wonderful support, enjoy your crafting and we'll talk again soon!
Well, what a start to the month! A delayed blog this time due to the Corona Virus outbreak and NZ going into Level 4 Alert and Lockdown. It was recommended that the Over 70 age group (which unfortunately I am now part of!) was to self-isolate to protect us from the virus. This means lots of spinning time at home! This is some of what I have achieved so far...
These skeins will be available on my website soon.
As well as doing my own spinning and dyeing - I also have an arrangement with a lovely local old-fashioned yarn shop Needle and Hook (www.needleandhook.co.nz) where I dye yarn exclusively for her brand.
My cousin knits blankets for charity. They receive donations of a lot of white wool, so my contribution is to dye it in lots of lovely bright colours. I have so much fun doing this - my imagination goes wild!
Another arrangement I have is with a wonderful fellow stallholder from the Creative Queenstown Arts and Crafts Market.
Among other things, Shelley sells handmade soap with a felted wool covering. I dye the fibre for this product. You can see more of her here: http://www.queenstownmarket.com/skin-indulgence
Hope you are all taking care of yourselves, this is a wonderful opportunity to relax with slow craft. Stay home and stay safe as best you can.
